Artist Statement

Since I spent 30 great years in the interior design business, it is no surprise that my work is always about interiors and exteriors and the details that animate them. I get excited when I see a colour in the real world that is unexpected or used in an original way. I can be inspired by a piece of fabric, a pattern on a wall, an architectural moment, or a corner of a friend’s garden, only to find that memory transformed later on in a drawing. To me my drawings are whimsical and imaginary. They make me smile and I like to think that they bring a smile to others as well. I’m told I’m obsessed with detail. It’s an occupational hazard of long standing. I own that. My art is all about detail, colour, composition and a particular sort of balance. I love the versatility of my brush pens and the colour discoveries I can make as I work. That my drawings comply with no real room or place is irrelevant. When I’m working … I’m always in ‘my happy place’.
